Don’t Count Reichel Out

Lukas Reichel.

It isn’t a secret Lukas Reichel has been very disappointing this season, but don’t give up on him. Still only 21 years old he has plenty of time to become the player we once saw. The former 1st round pick in 2020, is currently on an expiring rookie contract which will make him an RFA this summer. I’m expecting the Hawks to resign him 1.5×2 which is team friendly but also, giving Reichel a chance to reprove himself. There has been a lot of ups and downs this year for Lukas which was mostly downs. What was supposed to be labeled his first full NHL season, there was a slight pause because he was sent to the Hawks AHL team the Rockford Ice Hogs. Currently Lukas has 3 Goals, 8 assist for 11 points in 54 games. With 11 games left on the season it is important for Lukas to gain some confidence and keep playing like he has since coming back from Rockford. This is a huge summer for Lukas, I expect the hawks to add some help in the top 6, with also adding some more veteran presence. I still believe in Reichel, I think he still has top 6 upside and that he can be the player we saw at the end of the 2022-2023 season. Since Reichel’s return the most thing that has surprised me has been his game away from the puck. He has been back checking hard, in the last couple games he has had some great defensive takeaways at center ice leading to scoring chances the other way. With Reichel finally showing comes confidence and consistency, he still is getting pushed outside the top 6 allowing guys like Taylor Raddysh to get more ice time than him, which makes no sense to me. The Blackhawks take on the Flames tonight which Lukas has had a good career against so far posting 5 points in 5 games against the Flames. Let’s hope for a good game and some star power from are young guys!
