Should the Yankees Reunite with Southpaw Starter Jordan Montgomery?

The Yankees have been in talks for a starter before opening day, and Jordan Montgomery might be a fit. Montgomery, entering his age 31 season, started his career with the Yankees before being shipped off to St. Louis in a deal for Harrison Bader, and St. Louis dealt Montgomery to Texas last season, where they would be eventual World Series champions.

Montgomery had a 10-11 record last year, 3.20 ERA, 166 Ks in 168.2 IP last season for STL and TEX. He had a very strong postseason showing, where he went 3-1 in 5 starts, a 17/5 K-BB ratio in 31 innings en route to a World Series run.

You can say Montgomery is a winner, just like the other Yankee acquisition Juan Soto, and the Yankees need that championship pedigree. A lot of the team has never been to a World Series. If the Yanks want to make a WS push, this is a move they should make. Monty is familiar with Yankee stadium, and had success with the Yanks when healthy. It is said that Montgomery’s price range has dropped as the regular season is three days away. Joel Sherman said “the Yankees have provided Jordan Montgomery’s camp with a range at which they are comfortable striking a deal.” This comes as no surprise after the Gerrit Cole injury and reports of the Yankees and the Boras client re-engaging in talks early last week.
