Mets Sign Veteran Right-Handed Starter Who Was w/ O’s During Spring.

Per Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Mets signed Julio Teheran the veteran right-handed starter who threw 71 innings for the Brewers last year, to provide depth and eat innings for an injury-plagued rotation with Kodai Senga, Tylor Megill, and David Peterson on the injured list. Teheran played for the Mets’ new PoBO David Stearns last season in Milwaukee and was exactly what the Mets were looking for a depth piece who can give them quality innings when called upon. Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.Com, the veteran could pitch against the Braves on Monday, since he had a spring training. Teheran will make $2.5M this season. Let’s take a peek into the veteran right-hander profile.

He’s not an overpowering pitcher, stuff is way below league average, and he doesn’t generate too many whiffs, but he does generate ground balls at a solid 40% clip. Teheran is essentially going to provide innings for a rotation that has been killed by injuries, worst case for the Mets is he makes a low amount of starts and gets hit hard a couple of times and the organization sends him down or parts way, and brings up one of Butto/Lucchesi if they still have injury problems.
