About a week ahead of the trade deadline, the Yankees have a wishlist of acquiring a 3rd baseman, a starting pitcher, and at least one high leverage reliever, they have checked the first item off the list, acquiring McMahon from Colorado in exchange for pitchers Griffin Herring and Josh Grosz.

McMahon, 31, is under control until after the 2027 season making $16 million per year. He is an elite defender at 3rd base, exactly what the Yankees need. The bat leaves some to be desired, it isn’t terrible, but is below league average. His home/road splits away from Colorado aren’t great, so you’d hope the Yankees can get more out of his bat. The Yankees had interest in Eugenio Suarez from Arizona, but this signals to me that the Yankees are going big game hunting for starting pitching, rather than a third baseman.
