End of an Era on Long Island: Brock Nelson dealt to Colorado

On the eve of deadline day, Lamoriello has made his splash, trading longtime Islander Brock Nelson and prospect William Dufour to Colorado in exchange for F Calum Ritchie, A 2026 or 2027 First Round Pick, a 3rd Round Pick, and defenseman Oliver Kylington. The Islanders immediately flipped Kylington to Anaheim for future considerations. Lou Lamoriello did fantastic in this trade. Acquiring picks and a prospect like Calum Ritchie

The Islanders did what many thought Lou would never do. He is selling at the trade deadline. Brock Nelson was the most sought after player at this years deadline (pending a potential second Mikko Rantanen deal), but the Islanders did very well here. They added another prospect to their pipeline, and a fantastic one at that. Calum Ritchie is a 20 year old center currently playing in the OHL who could see NHL time this year, he will be a big part of the Islanders future, helping improve their weaker prospect pipeline.

What’s next? Lamoriello has Kyle Palmieri available for trade too. And based on the market, he could garner a first round pick or a prospect of similar value, I would expect him to be moved before the deadline tomorrow as well. But we will just have to see what happens tomorrow.
