Get To Know Blackhawks First Round Pick Sacha Boisvert

Sacha Boisvert Draft Day Picture

Today I got a chance to ask Blackhawks 2024 First round pick a few questions. First off Sacha Boisvert was selected, 18th overall by the Blackhawks in this past draft. Sacha is currently an 18 year old true Freshman at the Univeristy of North Dakota where he is currently leading the team in scoring as a freshman, he has posted 9 goals and 9 assist for 18 points in 23 games played. Sacha has a big frame that Hawks fans are gonna love, did I mention he has an unreal shot? The hawks future core needed size and that’s what General Manager Kyle Davidson went out and got, he got a 6”2 Center who can play 200 ft and also put the puck in the back of the net often. Boisvert very likely to head back to college next year, has a chance to make his NHL debut at the end of his next college season. Blackhawks fans always love the guy who can play with jam and that’s what Sacha brings while also being able to hurt you on the score board, I can see Hawks fans absolutely loving him in Chicago.

I asked Sacha 5 total questions, with the first one being who was your favorite player growing up? He replied with “Evgeni Malkin”. This makes sense as he was often compared to Malkin around draft time, they both have big frames and play a skilled game.

For the next question I asked him what was your favorite team growing up? He said, “Montreal Canadians” Sacha is from Trois-Rivières, Québec and just like many people you root for your hometown team.

Another question I asked him, who would you compare your game to? He replied with “Anze Kopitar and Alexandre Barkov” I really like this comparison, Kopitar has been one of the best 2 way players in the NHL for the last decade and Barkov has been great since coming into the NHL and oh they both have won a Stanley cup.

For the fourth question I asked him what part about Chicago are you most looking forward too? Sacha replied with “I am really looking forward to Chicago for the challenge of earning myself a spot on the team and making myself a name in the NHL”. I actually ran into a ex UND player at my local rink and he knew Sacha, he said “He works really hard, and is gonna be a really good player”. It’s good to hear how hard he works and knowing he will be a future player for your favorite team as soon as possibly the end of next season.

For the final question I asked him, what’s most important to the Blackhawks for you to improve on? He stated “I would say the most important thing for me to improve on is my puck protection on the board in the offensive zone because I am a big guy and I am learning how to utilize my size as much as I can”. Many young players that are bigger, seem to be clumsy and not know how to use their body yet or often times need to grow into their bodies. In my opinion North Dakota was a great development route for Boisvert. I’m really excited to see what he can develop into, him having size already gives him an advantage while also pairing that with his vision and lethal shot he is setup to be a success.

It was nice to talk to him, he seems super cool and a down to earth guy. Also I talk to his dad a bit and all I can say is great things about him. Rooting for Sacha and hoping for a great career.
