New York Islanders 24’-25’ Season Preview: Exciting Offseason Additions and Coaching Changes

The 23’-24’ New York Islanders, coming off a 94-point season, have a lot to prove in the upcoming 24’-25’ season.

The team has made some interesting moves this offseason as they hope to make a deeper playoff run.

Let’s discuss some significant moves for the hockey club:

The first addition to the Islanders this offseason was Maxim Tsyplakov. Maxim’s highly anticipated arrival on the island will be a source of excitement this year. Tsyplakov, one of the most sought-after European free agents this summer, attracted interest from numerous teams. Ultimately, he chose to sign with the Islanders, and at the age of 25, he will make his long-awaited NHL debut.

The second addition made was NHL journeyman, Anthony Duclair. Anthony is a much-needed injection of life for the club and hopes to make an impact from Day 1. The forward has played for several teams in the National Hockey League (NHL), including the Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose Sharks, and Florida Panthers. Duclair is known for his speed and offensive presence on the ice, and he has had successful seasons throughout his career. The question remains: will he be on the first line with Bo Horvat and Mathew Barzal, or will he play as a multi-line offensive contributor? Regardless, it seems Duclair has found a new home on the Island and will have a major impact on the club.

Additionally, the Islanders recently re-signed Defenseman, Mike Reilly and Forward, Simon Holmstrom.

The final move this offseason was the firing of Assistant Coach Doug Houda. It appears that management, along with Patrick Roy, believes in coaches John MacLean and Benoit Desrosiers, who were added to the coaching staff by Patrick Roy shortly after his hiring, and they will continue in their roles.

Overall, the season appears to be shaping up differently for the Islanders, with trade talks still circulating in the rumor mill. Nothing is set in stone at this time, but it begs the question: who might be traded? Could it be Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Captain Anders Lee, or Adam Pelech?

All in all, the New York Islanders have made the right moves to push forward, and we are excited to see them compete this year!

My Prediction:

  • 3rd in the Metropolitan Division
  • 102 Points
  • 48-28-6

  1. Great article Andy, I think coaching is going to be crucial to your islander team and if Patrick Roy can’t bring them together, things might go south, but those good offseason additions might help propel the team as a whole.
