Edmonton Forces Game 7, Rumor Mill Continues…

Connor McDavid and co. did exactly what they said they were gonna do ahead of Game 5, they “dragged em’ back to Edmonton” for Game 6, which they won in very convincing fashion. Setting the stage for Game 7 in Sunrise, Florida on Monday night. The first Game 7 of a Stanley Cup Finals since 2019 when St. Louis beat Boston. It is also the first Game 7 in any major sport’s finals since the pandemic, the last one being October of 2019 during the World Series that year. The Oilers are looking to become the first team to eliminate a 3-0 series deficit in the Stanley Cup Final since the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942.

Around the League

Update on Linus Ullmark

The Boston Bruins are going to move Linus Ullmark within the next two weeks, and it seems the finalists for his services are the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings. On Ottawa’s front, it seems he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause to go there, but a deal would likely come with an extension, but it seems Ottawa may be willing to make a deal even without an extension in place. As for Detroit, they likely aren’t making a deal unless there’s a long term deal in place. GM Steve Yzerman said he wants a guy who will be around longer than 2 or 3 years who will then leave in free agency.

Jets Prospect to be Dealt

Rutger McGroarty and his camp are not currently talking with the Jets, the 2022 First Round Pick believes that his development would be better suited for an organization that can give him early and consistent playing time, something Winnipeg can not offer him right now. There will be plenty of teams going after McGroarty, and the Jets may seek a first round pick, because they do not have one this year after trading it to Montreal in the Sean Monahan deal. McGroarty is expected to be traded either ahead of, or at the NHL Draft next week.

Martin Necas Update

It was reported today that the Carolina Hurricanes would like to pull off a “hockey trade” when they trade pending restricted free agent Martin Necas. Reportedly teams like Montreal, Nashville, and Seattle are all in the thick of talks. Teams like St. Louis, and Philadelphia amongst others also remain interested. Carolina is looking for roster players or prospects in return rather than strictly future assets like draft picks, as they want to try to replace Necas production. Carolina has a big offseason ahead, having guys like Martin Necas and Seth Jarvis as RFAs, and Jake Guentzel, Brady Skjei, Brett Pesce, Stefan Noesen, and Jordan Martinook as key UFAs.

Main Suitors for Brett Pesce

It was reported yesterday that the New Jersey Devils may have interest in Hurricanes D Brett Pesce, they join the Canes and the Maple Leafs as teams we know will pursue him. It would be a great get for the Devils who may look for more consistency on the right side of the defense. They have Dougie Hamilton, Simon Nemec, and John Marino all under contract, but injuries were an issue, Pesce could definitely bring more consistency for them at a reasonable price tag.

Draft Rumors

The Draft begins next week, and the rumors are swirling. We know who’s getting picked at 1, Boston University’s Macklin Celebrini. But the draft really starts at #2 with the Chicago Blackhawks. There are 3 different players you can make convincing cases for them to take. Demidov, Levshunov, and Lindstrom. Another interesting pick is Montreal at 5. Reportedly a “a team” has been putting out bad things about Ivan Demidov to get him to fall, and many suspect that it’s the Canadiens. If they have the opportunity they’ll surely take him. As for Ottawa, the rumors are swirling between them, the Flyers and the Bruins. Both teams Ottawa could strike deals with early in the draft.
