Yesterday afternoon, Joe Douglas had another press conference, and said some very interesting stuff. Let’s try and dissect the mind of Joe Douglas.
Pick 10
Joe Douglas said that “There are 10 good players we like”, also, when asked about trading up or down, Joe said “Those are questions we’re asking ourselves.”
Brock Bowers
Douglas spoke about the Tight End, and mentions how star TE’s Kittle, LaPorta and Kelce are “dynamic weapons”, and “The right TE is worth the first round pick.” Douglas also stated “there’s a TE who’s a swiss-army knife, and can really stress a defense.” Douglas sounds really open to selecting Bowers at 10, would not shock me if we hear Bowers’ name called on Draft night, holding up a Jets jersey.

Zach Wilson
Joe Douglas confirmed that QB Zach Wilson is NOT at voluntary workouts, but the team still views him as an “asset.” The Jets remain open to trading him, but there has been barely any movement the last few weeks. Trace back, about a month or two ago, to Jets owner Woody Johnson stating “If we can’t trade Zach, we’ll keep him” and won’t release him.

Alijah Vera-Tucker’s 5th year option
The past two seasons, AVT has suffered season-ending leg injuries, both @ Denver. Joe Douglas seemed noncommittal on deciding to accept his 5th year option. Douglas has until May 2nd to make the decision. AVT is a phenomenal, and incredibly versatile when on the field, however he hasn’t played an entire season since his rookie year.

Conclusion
From what we’ve read, it seems abundantly clear the Jets have Brock Bowers high on their draft boards, and maybe we see him on draft night. Anything is possible, and if it was up to me, I’d select Bowers as I agree with Joe, TE is a very important position to have in an elite offense. About Zach, as the days go-and-go, I cannot see a world where a team takes a flyer on him. I believe Zach will be the 3rd string QB, and actually sit an entire season and learn with Rodgers and even Taylor. Lastly, about Vera-Tucker, Douglas I believe is gonna wait and see how his season plays out, especially staying healthy. I’m not concerned, AVT is nothing short of phenomenal when on the field, there’s a reason why the Jets took him in the first a few years back. It’s all about health. Both the injures Vera-Tucker have sustained are freak injuries, has these two major ones are the only ones he has suffered.
