Lane Lambert OUT, Patrick Roy IN!

After going winless on a road trip, the Islanders announce Saturday that Head Coach Lane Lambert has been fired, and replaced by Hall of Famer Patrick Roy. Lambert was able to make the playoffs in his first year, but there were questions regarding some of his lineup decisions earlier this season. Including scratching Pierre Engvall a multitude of times. and separating Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat after Casey Cizikas got injured.

The Islanders should be getting some more stability with Roy taking over as head coach, especially one with a solid track record, who won the Jack Adams trophy with Colorado, and who should bring lots of fire and passion to the Islanders bench. Firing Lambert was something that was a long time coming, and a new head coach gives the Islanders the opportunity to control their own destiny through the final half of the regular season. I personally believe that hiring Roy is a great hire for the remainder of the season, and Lou Lamoriello will likely search for a long term solution over the summer, weather it’s Roy or not remains to be seen, assuming he returns as General Manager and president of hockey operations.
