Two days ago, the Yankees signed RHP Marcus Stroman, who was an all-star in 2023, to a two-year deal worth $37 million with a vesting option that takes the deal to a three-year, $55 million deal if Stroman pitches 140 innings in 2025. This is truly one of the best value signings in all of free agency, as Stroman is earning less than Lucas Giolito, and could’ve easily gotten more on the market. Great job by Brian Cashman and Co. to get this deal done.

Just one season ago, Marcus Stroman was in talks to start for the National League in the All-Star game, as Stroman had put together an impressive campaign up to that point, posting a 2.96 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP until a rib injury derailed his season, as he came back and wasn’t the same guy after his return. Stroman ended his 2023 at 10-9 with a 3.95 ERA, 119 Ks to 52 BB in 136.2 IP. Stroman’s a two-time All-Star, one with the Blue Jays, and one last year with the Cubs. He owns a 77-76 record with a 3.65 ERA over 231 games in his MLB career.

Stroman is a tough competitor, who isn’t afraid to express himself. He will likely fit right into a rotation that already features Gerrit Cole who’s the MLBs best pitcher, Carlos Rodón, Nestor Cortes, and Clarke Schmidt. The Yankees aren’t seen as done in the market, as they seek more pitching to add on to the bullpen, and rotation. Will they make another splash? Time will tell.
