The New York Mets have agreed to terms on a one-year $13 million dollar deal with RHP Luis Severino. Severino, 29, had a tough season in 2023 with multiple injuries and struggling when on the mound but still carried a 104 Stuff+ so it’s a low risk project as it is only a one year deal as the team is in desperate need of pitching depth adding Severino is nice as he has nice potential to be a mid to back end guy in rotation next season and if he struggles then you cut ties and look at other options and move on from there. Even though last year was a massive struggle for Severino his 2022 campaign was really decent:
Luis Severino’s 2022 Season:
⁃ 102.0 IP
⁃ 27.7% K%
⁃ 7.4% BB%
⁃ 27.8 Whiff%
⁃ 124 ERA+
⁃ 3.18 ERA
⁃ 3.70 FIP
If the Mets can unlock this Severino it would make this deal turn out to be fantastic cause this production coming out of a back end starter would be great for this currently depleted rotation. But at the end of the day this is a depth move with low risk and high reward possibility.
