Yankees add RP Middleton to already great pen

In a trade deadline where the Yanks were silent for the most part, the club added 6’3 RHP Keynan Middleton. Now I personally like the move, and while a lot of fans are disappointed because NYY could’ve and arguably should’ve added bats, they went for relief pitching. Here’s some stats that may get you excited on the big right hander.

Keynan Middleton’s Stats

On the season, Middleton has a 3.96 ERA, with 47 Ks to 16 walks in 39 appearances, 36 1/3 IP. Keynan has a very encouranging 11.64 K/9, and he induces ground balls at a 51.6% rate. Pitching coach Matt Blake works very well with pitchers like this.

Keynan Middleton features a changeup, which he throws 44.2% of the time, a slider, which he throws 28.5% of the time, and a Four-Seam Fastball, which he throws 27.4% of the time. The fastball sits at around 96 MPH, the slider at around 86 MPH, and the changeup at around 88 MPH. He is 95th percentile in whiff rate, and 90th percentile in chase rate. He is an alarming 23rd percentile in walk percentage, but he could improve on that in New York.

Middleton is seen as a rental, as he’s gonna be a free agent at the conclusion of the 2023 season. He’s expected to join the Yankees for tomorrows game against Tampa Bay.
