Should The Mets Target This Nationals Outfielder For Next Season?

The Mets are sellers at this deadline, no doubt about it, but the team wants to contend next year and beyond. Lane Thomas is twenty-seven years old, and could easily fit in to next year’s lineup. They will have a need in LF next season with Pham and Canha likely to be moved at the up coming deadline. With the team looking to bring home a championship next season, I feel like Lane Thomas is a perfect fit, and with him being under team control till 2026, that’s exactly what the Mets need. Lets look at his data from this season:

.287/.335/.447

.812 OPS

38.7% HardHit%

8.7% Barrel%

117 wRC+

2.1 fWAR

4.3 BsR

2 DRS

+ 3 Fielding Run Value

With good base running, and good defense, he could have a spot out in left field for a while. The price could be high especially with him being team controlled for at-least two more years.

Mock Trade:

Mets Send:

RHP Junior Santos

INF/OF Wilfredo Lara

INF Cristopher Larez

RHP Jose Butto

Cash Considerations

Nationals Send:

OF Lane Thomas

Mets send decent prospects along with cash, and bring in Lane Thomas. But we will have to see if the Mets brass is ready to start making trades for next season, or they are focused on bringing prospects.
