Big reinforcements due back for the Bronx Bombers

On Sunday Morning, Jonathan Loaisiga took the Yankee Stadium mound, and threw a live BP session. He threw it to Aaron Judge. Those are two names that have missed significant time for this Yankee team that’s seen their fair share of ups and downs. Loaisiga hasn’t seen big league action since April, and Judge, the Yankee captain hasn’t seen big league action since early June. Judge is slashing .291/.404/.604 this season with 19 homers and 40 RBIs. The Yankees need him back in the lineup, but it is clear that once he is clear to return, he won’t be at 100%.

Another big return that is due soon is LHP Nestor Cortes. The 2022 All-Star started a rehab assignment and made his first start with AA Somerset on Sunday, going 3.1 IP only giving up a run. The Yankees need Nasty Nestor in the rotation in a playoff push. Before going down to injury, he was a bit shaky, going 5-2 with an ERA of 5.16, striking out 59 in 59.1 innings of work.

Trade Season?

Trade season is upon us, and there’s already rumors of the Yankees going after some notable names, one such being Chicago Cubs CF/LF Cody Bellinger. New York has struggled with Left Fielder issues all season, and Bellinger helps fill void and can be a huge threat for the Yanks. The former MVP is slashing .319/.369/.549 with an OPS nearing .920. He’s hit 14 homers, driven in 44 runs, and swiped 12 bags. Even though he’d most likely be a rental, the Yankees can definitely use Bellinger in a postseason push.

The Yankees recently got back slugger Jake Bauers, who has put together a nice season for the Bombers and had a huge impact on this Yankees lineup. Bauers has hit .226 with an OPS nearing .800, hitting 7 homers, driving in 19, and stealing 2 bags. He’s found a nice role on this team since being called up from AAA. Also coming back from injury was the speedy outfielder Greg Allen, who brings nice potential as a late game defender/pinch-runner, and can be used in a nice role for the Yankees.
