After a sweep of the Kansas City Royals, the Yankees currently sit with a record of 53-47, 2 games back of the Blue Jays for the final Wild Card spot. The Yankees can definitely launch themselves firmly into a spot, but it will take a lot.

Making a Move
The Yankees can start by acquiring Cubs OF Cody Bellinger. The former NL MVP is having an amazing year for the under .500 Cubs. Sporting a 2.7 fWAR in just 283 PAs, he has become one of the most lucrative rentals on the market, and one who’s left handed swing could play very well at Yankee Stadium, I believe they’ll acquire him, significantly deepening their lineup.

Acquire Flame-throwing Reliever
Another player that could be a fit for the Yankees, Cardinals reliever Jordan Hicks. The Yankees dealing with struggles in the bullpen of late, could use some reinforcements. Hicks is the type of reliever the Yankees target in recent years. A reliever with a high velocity, a high groundball rate, and typically with control issues. The control issues being the main issue in Hicks’ game, I could see the Yankees taking a flyer on him, similar to Clay Holmes in 2021, and Lou Trivino in 2022.

The Cavalry is Coming
Obviously the Yankees are awaiting Aaron Judge to return, and him returning will give a huge boost to the offence which definitely needs it. However, Judge is not the only player that could provide a shift in their return. LHP Nestor Cortes started a rehab assignment with Somerset, he’s due back in a few weeks. Reliever Jonathan Loaisiga is due to start a rehab assignment next week, his return would deepen the bullpen significantly. Even guys like Luis Gil could play roles down the stretch if other injuries come into play, as he has started a throwing program in his return from Tommy John surgery.
