On Saturday, en route to a 6-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies, Yankees 3B Josh Donaldson came up limping after a groundout, and he was placed on the Injured List with a calf injury. Oswald Peraza was recalled from Triple-A.

Enter Oswald Peraza, the 23 year old infielder who was written off by some after losing the shortstop competition to Anthony Volpe, has put together a very solid season for Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre this year:
44 G
211 PAs
.262 AVG
.355 OBP
.497 SLG
.853 OPS
12 HRs
110 wRC+
Peraza got some run between shortstop and second base at the end of the 2022 season and in the Postseason, this could be the time for Peraza to claim his spot as this teams long term third baseman. If he can put up similar numbers as he has in Triple-A, we could be looking at a very big piece of the Yankees future in the hot corner.

The final piece of the puzzle, is getting Peraza getting acclimated to playing third base more consistently (7 total games this year) between MLB and Triple-A at that spot. Peraza is already a great defensive shortstop, if that ability translates to third base, he should have no problems playing there for the long haul. Offensively he isn’t bad either, I think he can be an above average hitter good for around 20 homers and a .800 OPS year in and year out.
