BREAKING: The New York Jets extend star DT Quinnen Williams to-a-team friendly 4 year $96 million dollar deal ($66m guaranteed).
What this means for the New York Jets
The Jets lock up arguably their second best defensive player in Quinnen Williams. Williams, a first round draft pick in 2019 broke out last season with TWELVE sacks with his career-high being in 2020 with seven prior. Williams has shown he can be one of the best DT’s in the NFL and extending him was HUGE. The Jets DLine is very underwhelming with newly signed Quinton Jefferson and John Franklin-Myers who was very good to start in 2021 which led to an extension and since then he’s been subpar. When everyone plays up to their ability, the New York Jets have one of the deepest and best defenses in the entire NFL.
The Contract
The 4 year $96 million dollar deal is a lot less than most analysts/scouts were saying. Everyone was expecting around 5 years $108 million. To lock up an elite player at that price is more than an absolute steal. Probably a heist *corny joke*. With the rest of the money, I fully expect the Jets to try and sign Dalvin Cook as-well to round out this years team.
