Domingo Germán etches his name in baseball immortality.

27 up, 27 down. On Wednesday night in Oakland, Domingo German was looking to bounce back after his previous two starts of giving up 15 earned runs over 5.1 total innings over those starts. German responded with the 24th perfect game in baseball history.

Reports came out that German’s uncle passed away just three days ago, and German said that throughout the game his uncle is who was on his mind. “This game is for him.” he said. German reportedly cried in the clubhouse after finishing the game and celebration, as he got to honor his uncle with the best performance of his career.

Like him or not, what Domingo Germán did last night in Oakland is going to be remembered for a long time. As he’s the first Yankee to pitch a perfect game since David Cone did it in 1999. And he accomplished the feat in less than 100 pitches. Making his performance even more impressive in an age of load management. But at the end of it all, Domingo Germán has etched his name into the baseball history books with the 24th perfecto in history.
