In Josh Donaldson’s time in Pinstripes over?

Josh Donaldson’s tenure in pinstripes hasn’t been very pretty, and it may be coming to an end. So far in the year 2023, Donaldson’s slash line has been very ugly. In 64 at bats, Donaldson has slashed .125/.197/.406 with an OPS of .603 in 21 games. Not very promising. Josh has been benched in the last 3 games. Prior to Sunday’s game, manager Aaron Boone had a talk with Donaldson in his office, and the conclusion was that Donaldson is still a Yankee at this moment, and Aaron Boone said that Josh Donaldson’s role on this team is “he will be playing a lot still.”

How long is the leash?

The leash seems to be for as long as can do, as the 37 year old Donaldson has struggled in a Yankee uniform for about one and a half seasons now. As he has been a premier defender, he hasn’t shown very much at all with his bat. He does have some memorable moments, like the walk-off Opening Day single in his first game as a Yankee, or the walk-off Grand Slam against Tampa Bay to lift the Yankees in extra innings. It hasn’t been a lot for Donaldson. He’s got 21 homers and 70 RBIs in 153 games, but the advanced stats, and the slash line is concerning. In my opinion, and a lot of other Yankee fans opinions, the Yankees should absolutely try and move on, and look on other options from AAA (Peraza, Chaparro, etc.)
