The Mets’ are undoubtedly in need of a another reliable starting pitcher, and the Detroit Tigers have a left-hander that can make a difference in this rotation with Quintana out for at least till the summer. Eduardo Rodriguez signed a 5 year, 71.846 Million (with an opt-out after 2023), dollar deal with the Tigers, a few years back. He struggled in his first year with his new ball club putting up an ERA just over 4. But he has been red hot to start 2023, let’s look at his stats:
Rodriguez 2023 Stats:
56.2 IP
2.06 ERA
2.86 xERA
24.4% K%
5.6 BB%
-9 Run Value (Four-Seam Fastball)
Great numbers from ERod even though it’s still early in the year metrics are showing signs that he can have a good year and really fit the Mets’ need of a good LHP. Currently unclear if the Tigers will move him as we are still awhile away from the deadline, but with his opt-out looming, it’s more than likely that they try and get a return for a player who can bring back a decent return. Likely cost would be top 20 organizational prospect along with a couple of sweeteners, if the Mets were to make the move i’d expect David Peterson to be involved in a potential deal. This deal would give the Mets the potential to run a 6 man rotation compiled of
Verlander
Scherzer
Rodriguez
Senga
Quintana
Megill
Which is great for the Mets as it gives them the flexibility to get the older vets some rest, to keep them fresh through out the rest of the year.
