Gerrit Cole and DJ LeMahieu were the keys to victory tonight, as DJ LeMahieu got both RBI’s (RBI Single, HR) and Gerrit Cole continued his dominance as he cruised to a complete game shutout. His CG shutout was the first since Masahiro Tanaka did it against the Rays in 2019.

Gerrit Cole’s Dominance
Gerrit Cole’s masterpiece improved him to 4-0 on the season. Cole is the first pitcher in the MLB this year to have 4 wins. Cole is fifth in the MLB with a 0.95 ERA, and is averaging roughly 8 Ks per game with 32 on the year in four starts. “That’s a big time performance from Gerrit.” When asked about how it felt to go the distance, he said that he felt great, and it was a great end to the series, also adding that the team played a great game and did a good job defending home field.

Anthony Volpe’s really coming into his own now, as he’s on a five-game hit streak, and he’s stolen 4 bases in his last two games. Volpe is tied for second on the MLB list with 7 steals, and is 7/7 doing so. Volpe has also been as advertised on the defensive end, having positive metrics in both outs above average and defensive runs saved.
