The ” Kids ” Hot Start In AAA Ball.

Brett Baty, Mark Vientos, Ronny Mauricio have been labeled as the “ Kids “ of the New York Mets organization. All of them are in Syracuse playing AAA ball, and all have been dominate to start the campaign for the 2023 season. Lets start with the youngest one, Ronny Mauricio, he’s been playing really well at the plate, let’s look at his stats:

13 G

55 PA

.380/.436/.880

12 XBH

6 HR

223 wRC +

Phenomenal stuff by Ronny. He’s been seeing and destroying the baseball and definitely has a chance of being called up this season. It’s unlikely it will be anytime soon, if anything the 22 year old could get a late season call up if continues this pace.

Brett Baty has been a top hitter in all of AAA ball. He’s been playing elite level baseball since the start of spring training. Mets FO thought it was best to get him more reps down in AAA. In the very small sample size he’s been playing everyday, except when he had thumb inflammation, but that was a quick thing and only missed a couple game. Lets look at Baty’s stats.

9 G

42 PA

.400/.500/.886

7 XBH

5 HR

241 wRC +

It’s a very tiny sample size by Baty, but everything looks good so far for the Mets’ #2 prospect via MLB pipeline. The signs have been pointing to him Baty coming up any day with Escobar struggles continue, we will have to wait and see.

The 3rd and final “ Kid “ Mark Vientos, just like Baty, Vientos found time in the Majors last year, it was late in the season, Vientos also went into spring training competing for a spot, but Mets FO wanted him to get more ABs down in AAA. He’s been just been a bit less dominant compared to Mauricio and Baty. Lets look at his stats:

12 G

52 PA

.283/.365/.565

5 XBH

4 HR

134 wRC +

Really decent stuff by Vientos in a very small sample size, at the end of the day these 3 “ Kids “ are the future of the Mets’ organization and have really showed out to start the year and are really proving their worth. All have a wRC + over 130 which is really great. For the call up future, I’d expect Baty 1st Vientos 2nd Mauricio 3rd, 3rd doesn’t have to mean bad for Mauricio but he’s the youngest and has the least amount of time down in the minors.
