The Knicks set the tone for the first game of the playoffs, they didn’t exactly contain Donovan Mitchell, but they did come away with a key win nonetheless. Winning game 1 on the road is a crucial win for this series.

Jalen Brunson stepped up in a big way today. After a quiet first half, he recorded 23 points in the second half, singlehandedly keeping the Knicks in this game when the Cavs kept it close during the final 5 minutes.

Josh Hart was a big part in this win, recording a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Though immeasurable, his intensity and tenacious style of play helped the Knicks significantly as he made some key plays including a big 3-pointer after injuring his ankle.

Julius Randle made his return to the floor tonight, recording a 19 point performance in his first game in just over two weeks. Toppin played some good minutes, a couple of key throw downs and clutch corner threes. These two players are going to be something to monitor if Randle’s minutes are inconsistent due to the Knicks being cautious with him.

RJ Barrett could be something to monitor this series, he had a very lacklustre game today just 2-12 from the field, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tom Thibodeau opted for Josh Hart playing significantly more minutes than Barrett if his offensive woes continue. Defensively he was good tonight, but the offence just isn’t good enough to justify keeping him in the starting lineup.
