Yankees Beat Baltimore 4-1, Sunday Rubber Game

The Yankees won tonight in Camden in a way that they needed it. Here’s how they won. They started off going down 1-0 in the first inning, but after that inning, they didn’t look back. Aaron Hicks would get his first hit of the year, which would drive Anthony Rizzo home to tie the game at 1. Then, Anthony Volpe had his first XBH in the bigs, with a triple that statcast had at getting out in 8/30 MLB ballparks. DJ LeMahieu would continue being DJ, driving home Volpe with a double to left, and Aaron Judge would drive in DJ with a sac fly. The last Yankee run would be courtesy of Giancarlo Stanton, who hit a mammoth 438 foot, 116.3 MPH laser to left field to make it 4-1 Yanks. It was Giancarlo’s 3rd homer of the season. The Yankees pen would stay strong, only using 4 pitchers (King, Peralta, Holmes), after Jhony Brito’s strong five innings.

Anthony Volpe’s triple was a huge weight off his shoulders, as he stopped pressing and looked very happy after the hit. It broke a big slump for him. After the game, the Yankees honored Volpe with his first career Player of the Game belt. “It means the world,” Anthony said of the honor. “I’ve said it multiple times, but being apart of the Yankees and being welcomed by these guys has made it 10 times better than I ever could have imagined. For them to recognize I was going through it and struggling and they’re there for me every step of the way. And then to get recognized by them makes it better than being recognized by anyone else.” Look for Volpe to get going offensively.

Player of the game: Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton also has picked up his play recently, as he’s gone 4-8, scored 3 runs, and has 2 XBH in his last two games. Stanton went 2-4 tonight, and homered. He’s kept on hitting the baseball extremely hard, and is amongst the league leaders thus far in hard hit rate.

WP: Jhony Brito (2-0)

LP: Cole Irvin (0-2)
