The Isles fall to the Sabres 2-0, they fail to record any points against a team in their tight wild card race. They still sit atop the Eastern conference wild card race, with less than 10 games left, every game becomes a must win.
Semyon Varlomov played a great game today, allowing 1 goal while in net (other was empty-netter), Varlomov is arguably the best backup goalie in the NHL, paired with Ilya Sorokin and you have the best goalie tandem in the NHL. Need strong goaltending down the stretch and into the playoffs.
An Update on Barzal
Mat Barzal has not started skating according to Head Coach Lane Lambert, however teammates such as Brock Nelson and JG Pagaeu have started to talk about Barzal returning as a “when” not an “if”. If Mat Barzal returns for the playoffs, the Islanders will get a lot stronger offensively.
