With the Islanders being off today, I think we should take some time and look at the future of the New York Islanders. Despite having one of the weaker prospect pools in the NHL, The Isles have some solid prospects down in the pipeline.

F Ruslan Ishakov
The Islanders got themselves a nice player in Ruslan Ishakov, the 2018 2nd round pick is currently playing for Bridgeport and very well, impressing many with quick moves to the net and good playmaking. 16 Goals and 31 assists for 47 points in 58 games for the Bridgeport Islanders this season. Ishakov could make his way to the NHL at some point next season. depending how the roster shakes out, similar to Simon Holmström this season.

F William Dufour
Dufour was one of the most well regarded prospects in the Islanders prospect group especially after Aatu Räty getting traded, Dufour made his NHL debut this season, only played 1 game. He has spent most of his time in Bridgeport this season, with 20 goals, 21 assists for 41 points in 60 games. A concern with Dufour long term is how his skating ability will hold up in the NHL, as he’s a shot first forward, if he develops into an even better skater we’ll be hearing a lot about Dufour on Long Island very soon.

F Matthew Maggio
Matthew Maggio seems to be a steal from the 2022 draft by Lou Lamoriello. The 20 year old is posting unbelievable numbers in the OHL for the Windsor Spitfires. Maggio has 51 goals, and 56 assists for 107 points in just 63 games. Absolutely unbelievable production. He’ll be eligible for the AHL when he turns 20 next year. But will likely stay in the OHL until he signs his Entry-Level Contract at the end of next year.

D Isaiah George
George has risen as the best dman prospect in the Isles system, his defensive game is similar to that of current NHL-er in Alex Romanov, producing great defensive play as well as offensive production from a defenceman. Which is obviously valuable. George does have a way to go however, but by the end of next season, George could end up on the 3rd pair of Isles Defencemen potentially alongside Noah Dobson.
