The Rangers won an overtime thriller against a Montreal team that plays very hard. Here’s how it happened. 35 seconds into the game, Kaiden Guhle gave Montreal a 1-0 lead and had his fourth goal of the season. Not too long later, the Rangers hopped on a Power Play, and with the new lines they cashed in. New net front presence on the Power Play, Alexis Lafreniere tied things up at one a piece with his 14th of the year. Late in that period, Montreal got a two on one and Alex Belzile gave Montreal a 2-1 lead. Early in the second period, Jacob Trouba unleashed a nice wrister from Panarin and Kane to tie things a two. It was Patrick Kane’s first Ranger point. About 13 minutes later, Josh Anderson scored a SHG and gave Montreal a 3-2 lead on a Kane turnover. Kane made up for himself on the same Power Play, and tied things at three with a sweet wrister and his 17th goal of the year. In the third period, and in overtime, things remained scoreless. In shootouts, Igor Shesterkin saved 3/3 shots he faced and all the Rangers needed was a Mika Zibanejad goal to give them the win.
⭐️: Mika Zibanejad, GWG in shootouts
⭐️⭐️: Kaiden Guhle, Goal, 2 points
⭐️⭐️⭐️: Artemi Panarin, 3 assists
My personal ⭐️: Igor Shesterkin. After a rough start in the first period, he really settled in and made some huge saves to keep the Rangers in this hockey game. Igor finished with 23 saves. The Rangers (36-19-9) look to beat Buffalo at their home ice in a tough matchup. Game will start at 5 PM EST.
